Intro

North America will witness a spectacular event: an Annular Solar Eclipse on October 14th, 2023, finishing at 10:54am PT // 1:54pm ET. The eclipse will cast a hauntingly beautiful “Ring of Fire” in the sky as the moon veils the sun, allowing only a radiant halo of sunlight to pierce the darkness.

The eclipse’s path weaves through Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Eclipses will always be most potent for people that can visually see the eclipse, and will be especially pronounced in the geographic region directly under the 100% path of visibility.

A solar eclipse brings potent, accelerated changes. The Moon perfectly aligns with the Sun, obscuring the Sun’s light and casting a shadow on Earth. Eclipses reflect major plot twists. Sudden course corrections where we may have veered off of our path. A realignment. However, this realignment isn’t always apparent to us right away, it can take months to reveal itself. The shadow cast by the eclipse can bring darkness and uncertainty, but what emerges from the shadow often brings new understanding.

While the events of a New Moon typically unfold over the course of the ~28 day lunation; eclipses take months to unfold, and are actually part of a much larger 18 year cycle.

This solar eclipse is occurring at the South Node (aka Ketu), indicating a major new beginning that will come at the expense of the release of something, especially stagnant energy associated with past unaddressed Karma. This is a purging of Libra motifs: balance, harmony, ethics, justice, diplomacy, compromise, and peace. With the Sun’s light obscured by the Moon’s shadow, hidden matters around balance, fairness, and integrity in relationships or society may be revealed.

The “Halo” Symbolism and Angelic Connections

This eclipse is an Annular eclipse. The Moon will be relatively close to Apogee where she appears smaller and slower. As a result, the Moon will not entirely block the Sun, leaving a “Ring of Fire” or Halo appearance. This differs from a Total solar eclipse (coming to the US April 2024), where the Moon completely blocks the Sun.

With the Moon near Apogee, the Solar spirit still shines through, indicating the lunar/feminine principle can limit or transform solar/masculine energies, but not completely overpower them.

The word “halo” traces back to Ancient Greek. It comes from the Greek word “halōs” meaning “disk of the sun”. Of course, when we think of a halo, angels come to mind.

The notion of angels as divine helpers has roots in pretty much every religion. Ancient texts dating back thousands of years describe angels as messenger beings who carry out God’s will and can intervene in human affairs. They are created from light and have no free will, existing only to worship God and carry out divine orders.

In my opinion, angels are undoubtedly reflected through solar eclipses, especially given the matching “Halo” symbolism. The nodal axis, where the Moon + Sun’s path diverge and form eclipses, similar to angels, is able to permeate free will and intervene. It’s as if the nodal axis reflects our Divine compass, and every time eclipses come around, they veer us back to our Divine path.

Of course, Human free will is preserved to accept or reject opportunities that arise. And outcomes and form depends on individual and collective consciousness. Basically, as cliche as it sounds, trust your intuition and go with the flow.

Navigating Through the Stormy Eclipse Waters

Eclipses can be incredibly catalyzing and profound, very loud and unavoidable. An eclipse is like a storm out at sea. When you’re out sailing and you notice the sky start to darken, you heed that omen. You secure your cargo and passengers, reduce speed, and prepare for the oncoming storm. Once the storm has arrived, its best to head straight into oncoming waves and wind as it helps minimizes rolling from side-to-side and risks of capsizing.

We can apply this advice to navigating eclipses as well: face the eclipses’ force head on, don’t try to evade the circumstances.

However, sometimes when you’re out at sea, if a storm gets too bad, sometimes its best to anchor down and wait for the storm to pass, and that same advice can certainly be applied to navigating eclipses as well. Their effects can be catalytic and intense, so often it’s best to wait to pull the trigger on some things and wait for the storm to pass.

Remember – just like the storm will eventually clear – this too shall pass. The eclipse’s charged energies may feel endless, but they are transient. Change is life’s constant guarantee. I think that the eclipse’s exact aversion (150°) to Uranus could reflect many of us feel stuck with the fear that the turbulence and upheaval will never end. It could be hard for us fully remember the transient nature of life (♅) right now.

On top of that, Saturn, which represents our trials, tribulations, and ultimately where our most concentrated karmic tests show up, is in the early realm of Pisces. Here, our faith, particularly in the unseen and unknown, is deeply tested.

Amidst global strife and personal challenges, it’s seldom easy to discern the larger narrative unfolding. If you’re going through a difficult time right now, as many people in the world are, just know that it may not be easy to see the bigger picture right now – Saturn’s heavy presence is there. But this doesn’t mean that we just accept Saturnian pessimism and ignore our faith. It means that we work with Saturnian energy and develop discipline with our spiritual connection.

Meditate, reflect, pray – delve into your inner world, and maintain the self-discipline required to keep your connection with the Unknown strong. Nourish your inner world daily – no matter how hard the tests get. If you truly want to help humanity, this is one of the best things you can do. Through resilience lies great reward. Although it’s not easy, but have to maintain hope that these shadows enable humanity the darkness it needs to look within.

On a positive note, Mars just recently entered it’s home sign of Scorpio, forming a harmonious trine to Pisces Saturn – reflecting focused energy dedicated to the long term. This lends the willpower, strategy, and patience needed for undertakings inaugurated now to achieve stable manifestation.

Relationships Realigned + Standing Firm in Self-Love

Relationships are a major focal point of this Eclipse, especially with us being fresh out of a Venus retrograde, and this Libra eclipse is ruled by Venus.

With Venus herself residing in Virgo, the eclipse invites, or perhaps demands, an exploration of our relationships and values. It invites us to purge relationships maintained only for the sake of peace and to confront any truths we have been avoiding.

Venus is still opposite Saturn retrograde in Pisces, calling for maturity in relationships and standing firm in self-love, even when its not easy. Relationships and social harmony may be challenged and tensions, disagreements, or separations could occur.

Additionally, Mercury has decided to dip out during this eclipse (of course lol), and is combust (aka, close to the Sun). Communications may be heated and intense. Mercury will also be directly opposite Aries Chiron during this eclipse, which could reflect that we want to convey our feelings diplomatically (♎︎☿) but we’re upset that we were even hurt in the first place (♈︎⚷).

Ultimately, relationships will be challenged to grow in maturity and integrity. Communications may suffer amidst the intensity, but staying open and standing firm in self-love will see us through. In the end, this eclipse clears away stagnancy, creating space for relationships aligned with our highest good.

Malefic’s Exaltations Highlighted

With no major aspects, this eclipse forms a solitary focal point at 21° Libra. This is an important degree, as it’s traditionally recognized as the exaltation degree of the Greater Malefic – Saturn. AKA — where Saturn has extremely heightened power. Saturn’s exaltation in Libra reveals Saturn’s core focused energy as a planet – to bring balance, equilibrium, and synthesis between opposites. Known as the “Lord of Karma”, Saturn addresses imbalance, it restores equilibrium. Saturn calls us to re-evaluate where imbalance has crept in, restore the scales, and build new structures founded on high principles. Saturn’s tests and adversities encourage realignment to the whole, to the greater context we are part of.

So perhaps this eclipse highlighting Saturn’s exaltation degree is an indicator of a potent new beginning the realm of societal balance. Bringing a reset in the realm of justice and equality, with an emphases on diplomacy, compromise, and conflict resolution to create a society that works for all.

Interestingly, this eclipse forms a loose square to Pluto, stationed at 28° Capricorn — Mars’ exaltation degree, the other malefic. So the exaltation degrees of the two malefic are highlighted in an extremely potent way. Pluto here could suggest that drives and motivations, potentially lurking beneath our conscious awareness, may surface, demanding expression and, possibly, purgation. Plutonic energy is incredibly powerful, highlighting the necessity of focusing on higher principles and channeling any emerging energies toward constructive, rather than destructive, ends.

Divine Numbers: 72 and 144

During the eclipse, Taurus Jupiter RX will be precisely 72° away from Pisces Saturn RX.

72, a fibbionacci number, reduces to 9 (7+2=9). In numerology, 9 represents completion of a cycle before renewal begins anew. It is the final single digit, containing all other numbers within it. However, 72 is a semi-perfect number, meaning it is equal to some but not all of its divisors. This reflects the sense of potential completeness combined with imperfection. There is room for growth and evolution.

Jupiter and Saturn met during their Great Conjunction in December of 2020, so we are still in the early phases of their ~12 year cycle. Progress has been made, but imperfection and room for evolution remains. Jupiter seeks exploration and growth while Saturn demands caution and constraint. Both attitudes must fuse for tangible manifestation. Jupiter in Taurus provides the resources and groundedness to make Pisces Saturn’s spiritual visions come to reality. Together they can build structures of great nourishment.

1°44′ Scorpio Mars – 144° applying to Neptune

Now what’s really incredible is that Mars will be at exactly 1°44′ Scorpio during this eclipse, and precisely 144° from Neptune. This reflects a destined channel for willpower. It is spiritual warriorship. It indicates that throughout this upheaval, we are locked in to our spiritual intuition, and may even experience a lot of visionary guidance, despite obstacles.

The number 144 holds great importance in numerology, sacred geometry, and ancient traditions across cultures. It emerges from the natural harmonic of 12. It is a “square” number, meaning it results from multiplying a number by itself (12 x 12). Squares represent stability and order. 144 is the 12th number in the Fibonacci sequence – the mystical pattern interlinking the realms of mathematics and nature.

144 symbolizes the full manifestation or amplification of the archetypes inherent in the root number 12… which shows up in the 12 months of the year, 12 hours on a clock’s face, 12 ribs in our ribcage, 12 cranial nerves in our system, 12 jury members, 12 Apostles (Christianity), 12 Adityas (Hinduism), 12 Tribes of Israel (Judaism), the 12 Imams (Islam), 12 Olympian Gods (Greek Mythology), 12 Nidānas (Buddhism), The Twelve Keys of Basil Valentine, Jung’s 12 archetypes, and much more.

Aries

Martians, you are in the midst of an intense astrological chapter, with eclipses igniting your 1H and 7H over the next ~1.5 years. This current solar eclipse in your 7th house of partnerships portends major developments regarding your one-on-one bonds.

The presence of Ketu indicates unfolding of relational karma and a deep evaluation of your partnerships, be they romantic, business, or otherwise. The energy of Libra, striving perpetually for harmony, is paradoxically thrown into a conscious imbalance to reveal the shadows that perhaps have been lurking in your dealings with others. Karmic relationships may dissolve, creating space for more authentic connections. Disagreements could come to a head, forcing you to walk away from relationships stifling your growth. Stand firm in your worth – this breakdown enables rebirth.

With Venus gracing through your Virgo 6th house, themes of servitude, health, and daily routines might become significant arenas where the influence of relationships becomes particularly apparent. There might be partnerships that need re-evaluating in the context of your daily life and physical well-being

As the eclipse squares your 10th house Pluto, major shifts regarding your public life and career may also arise. Ambitions and vocational calling are undergoing transformation from the core.
