Overview

This full Moon will peak at 2:57am, September 29, 2023 (PDT) at 6°00 Aries.

Mars, the ruler of this Aries full Moon, is in its sign of exile – Libra. Emotions are heightened, yet we may feel pressured to restrain those feelings and behave cooperatively due to Mars in Libra.

This can be frustrating, as our desire to take action or assert ourselves may feel inhibited by the need for cooperation. There may be hesitation to fully express emotions out of fear of rocking the boat. Arguments could flare up, but they may not reach their full potential, leaving irritation boiling under the surface. Our decisions may be stalled as we feel stuck between acting on our instincts versus waiting for the approval of others or doing things “by the book”.

This full Moon has the potential to bring a lot of change into our lives, but it’s up to us what kind of change. The Libra Sun’s ruler, Venus, is in a near-precise square to Uranus, adding an element of chaos to this illumination. Relationships could drastically shift in an unexpected way. If you are looking to sever ties with someone or something in a direct yet diplomatic way, this is the full Moon for doing so.

The key is to strike balance between asserting ourselves in an external versus internal way. Acting solely on impulses could damage relationships irreparably. Yet suppressing our feelings entirely risks passive-aggression and repression. Trust your intuitive insights and act on them, but be cautious of burning any bridges.

This Aries full Moon is important, as it marks the first full Moon since the nodal axis entered Aries-Libra. It is a continuation of a potent story that began around April 20, 2023 that will continue into 2024.

Pay attention to any tension arising now – it’s signalling an area that needs change or improvement.

Understanding Aries as a Cardinal Sign

Aries is a cardinal sign. The cardinal signs correspond to the equinoxes and the solstices, the 4 times of year when we can notice some sort of discernible change with the Sun. IMO, the cardinal signs really are the main characters of the zodiac, as they initiate new chapters and bring change.

Equinoxes
“Equal Night” // Spring and Autumn
ARIES + LIBRA
Solstices
“Sun standing still” // Summer and Winter
CANCER + CAPRICORN
Derived from the Latin words “aequus,” meaning equal, and “nox,” meaning night.Derived from the Latin words “sol,” meaning sun, and “sistere,” meaning to stand still.
Equal balance between day and night, increase or decrease of light.Imbalance of day and night, longest or shortest day of the year.
Equinoxes are two points in the year when day and night are nearly the same length. It is when the Sun crosses the equator.A solstice is the point in the year when the sun reaches its most northern or southern position, creating the longest and shortest days.
Sun rises exactly East. Sun rises at its farthest point Northeast or Southeast.
(For the northern hemisphere)
0° Aries = Spring Equinox: days start getting longer / increase of light.
0° Libra = Autumnal Equinox: days start getting shorter / decrease of light.
(For the northern hemisphere)
0° Cancer = Summer Solstice: longest day / abundance of sunlight.
0° Capricorn = Winter Solstice: shortest day / lack of sunlight.

Since the Cardinal signs mark the beginning of seasons, cardinal energy is initiatory, forward, and dynamic. People born with an emphasis of cardinal placements typically exhibit these qualities.

On a deeper level, the cardinal signs reflect the balance (equinox) and imbalance (solstice) of day and night, light and dark, the Sun and the Moon.

The Aries-Libra Axis

In the equinox axis, Aries marks the Sun ascending north whereas Libra marks the Sun descending south. So while Aries and Libra as a cohesive whole reflect the equilibrium of day and night, Aries relates to ascension and Libra relates to descension.

Aries is typically known for its fiery impulsiveness and aggression. Usually, “balanced” isn’t a word that comes to mind when we think of Aries. Typically, the archetype of “balanced” is assigned to Aries’ counterpart – Libra.

Day and night are equal at both 0° Libra and 0° Aries. Despite pop astrology dismissing Aries as impulsive, many do not realize that Aries is actually a very balanced sign as well. Now, I’m not saying that Aries isn’t impulsive, but let’s just not throw the baby out with the bathwater. There is a much deeper side to Aries that isn’t often talked about.

As Cardinal signs, the initiators of the seasons, Aries and Libra both carry active force. Specifically, Aries and Libra strongly react to imbalance, as it challenges their inherent equilibrium. The difference between them is, Aries reacts to imbalance in an external way (Aries = Sun ascending above equator), whereas Libra reacts in a more internal way (Libra = Sun descending below equator.)

Essentially, when presented with an unfair situation, Aries is more likely to externally rage out, whereas Libra is more likely to retreat.

Libra is more likely to remain in situations that hurt their inner-equilibrium due to retreating into avoidance, but their dissatisfaction will inevitably surface in other ways, such as through passive aggressiveness.

Aries on the other hand typically won’t tolerate any situations that hurt their inner-equilibrium for long, but on the other hand, is more prone to burn bridges too quickly without giving them a chance.

The Moon in Aries

The Moon, Earth’s nocturnal companion that reigns over our subconscious as we dream and guides us through the dark veil of night.

The gravitational pull of the Moon interacts with Earth’s water, creating the rhythmic rise and fall of the tides. The Moon’s rapid cycles mirror the ever-changing nature of our feelings, our moods.

The Moon’s phases mirror the female menstrual cycle. The Moon is the divine mother within all of us, nurturing and protective, symbolic of our innermost needs and desires.

In my opinion, Aries Moons don’t get enough credit for their strong ability to act on their intuition. Aries encompasses assertiveness, the counterforce to passivity (Libra); and when the Moon is here, intuition and action are blended together, guiding Aries Moon natives to trust their intuition and act on it.

I have heard the stereotype of Aries Moons being emotionally volatile. Although it greatly depends on the Aries Moon native’s Mars placement, typically, an Aries Moon is only going to unleash their wrath if they are put in an unfair situation. Keep in mind, Aries = equinox, equal day/night; so just like Libra, Aries doesn’t like to have their inner-equilibrium challenged.

With that being said, Aries Moons are not the type to be swayed and overly react to petty bullsh*t. Their reactions are relatively measured, and typically an Aries Moon views trivial drama as a waste of time. If they do react, their reactions are sharp but short-lived. I’ve noticed that Aries Moons can be very loyal to those they love, as they will stand up for their loved ones if anyone wrongs them in an unfair way.
